Compliance Specialist


General Responsibility

The Compliance Specialist will support in administrating compliance with regulatory bodies like FDA, USDA, OSHA and MSHA, as well as certifying bodies like ISO and NASC. It will include assisting in writing the Food Safety Plans for all Van Beek companies with other qualified team members. This position will be instrumental in coordinating any Quality Management & Food Safety (QMFS) certifications which the companies may desire to implement.

1. Regulatory Compliance
a. Perform Compliance inspections of incoming materials prior to their use in production;
b. Perform verification and validation of preventive controls and critical control points;
c. Perform internal audits and follow up on nonconformances and corrective actions;
d. Ensure all needed registration and licensing is in place (products, scales, etc.);
e. Support Quality with supplier verifications; and
f. Ensure that the proper documentation of all Compliance activities is in place.

2. Certification Compliance
a. Support Quality in implementation and upkeep of the QMFS system; and
b. Support the company with product certifications (organic, non-GMO, etc.)

3. Other Duties
This position shall support its manager and shall ensure that all department members are cross trained on the position responsibilities

Education, Reasoning Ability & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biology or equivalent, preferred. Minimum of 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience preferred.

The ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.

Being a certified Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) for animal feed and Internal Food Safety Auditor (IFSA), or the willingness to achieve both certifications.
