Thermocal Building Construction & Maintenance


General Responsibility Statement

The Building Construction and Maintenance position is responsible for performing construction and maintenance tasks but is also capable of looking at a job and evaluating the work being done and ordered. This position is primarily responsible for the upkeep of the residential properties on the business site.

Essential Job Responsibilities
The essential job responsibilities consist of the following:

1. Construction
a. Demolish, remodel, and new construction on interior and exterior projects.
b. Read and interpret schematics and blueprints.
c. Complete cost estimates on all work prior to authorization.

2. Maintenance
a. Identify needed building repairs.
b. Safely use common power and hand tools.
c. Complete general building maintenance.
d. Ensure mechanical equipment is in working order and repaired.
e. Order and pick up parts and supplies, as needed.
f. Perform minor welding.
g. Assist with major electrical, plumbing, or HVAC repairs.
h. Install and repair minor electrical fixtures (light switches, outlets, etc.).
i. Replace and install plumbing systems, as experience allows.
j. Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, roofs, and other parts of buildings.
k. Remove, install, and replace floors and floor coverings.
l. Do landscaping work as needed.
m. Fencing repairs and replacement as needed.

3. Other Duties
a. This position shall support its manager and shall ensure that all department members are cross trained on the position responsibilities.
b. Willing to receive direction and input from the Executive team.
c. Willing to occasionally assist in milling production and seasonal quarrying.

Education & Experience

Preference is given to those with an Associate degree or higher.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in direct construction or maintenance work is required.
Experience in project management and compiling estimates is preferred.

Communication and Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Handle problems that involve several variables.
Communicate professionally, refrain from foul and inappropriate language.

Travel Requirements

This position does not typically require overnight travel.

Physical Demands

Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required to sit and use computer, handle paperwork, also to stand and use hands and fingers to grasp and hold objects, tools and/or controls, likewise reach with arms and hands. The employee is also, at times, exposed to fumes and or airborne particulates.
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work including but not limited to: Mining, outdoors, manufacturing or plant environment. PPE includes hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, proactive clothing, and gloves.
Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions; exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, as well as cold and/or heat.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does include supervisory responsibilities of projects but does not include supervisory responsibilities of personnel.
