Accounting Associate

General Responsibility Statement
The Accounting Associate is responsible for supporting the accounting team assisting in daily accounting tasks and functions.

Essential Job Responsibilities
The essential job responsibilities consist of the following:

1. Accounting Assistant
a. Assist with Accounts Receivable activities calling on customers to facilitate payment of any past-due statements.
b. Work with purchasing and receiving to resolve purchase order and receipt reconciling differences.
c. Maintain accurate files and records.
d. Support the necessary administrative filing activities for sales orders and miscellaneous state tax filings.
e. Support the monthly cycle counting of inventory as necessary.
f. Support and execute, when necessary, order entry’s and supports shipping and invoicing for all Van Beek Companies.
g. Provide credit references required by vendors.
h. Interact with suppliers and company employees.
i. Support process payment of employee expense reports and invoices.

2. Other Duties
a. Willing to receive direction and assist the CEO with accounting inquiries.
b. Responsible for completing other projects and tasks as requested by management.
c. This position shall support its manager and shall ensure that all department members are cross trained on the position responsibilities.
d. Willing to receive input and direction from all members of the Executive team.

Education, Reasoning Ability & Experience
A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is preferred. 3 years or more of experience in accounting will be considered. Possesses an understanding of basic accounting principles as well as GL accounts, and an ability to prepare and post journal entries. Experience with QuickBooks. Critical thinking and logical reasoning skills, including problem solving, troubleshooting and decision making. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Communication and Language Skills
Capacity to effectively present information in one-on-one, and group situations. Ability to read the audience and situation and communicate effectively. Conveys thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Displays contagious enthusiasm for objectives, tasks and people. Positively affects the commitment of others. Maintains professionalism in the way she/he communicates, refraining from foul language, and inappropriate language. Ability to handle sensitive information in a mature and confidential manner.

Travel Requirements
This position does not require overnight travel.

Physical Demands
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required to sit and use computer, handle paperwork, also to stand and use hands and fingers to grasp and hold objects, tools and/or controls, likewise reach with arms and hands. The employee is also, at times, exposed to fumes and or airborne particulates.
